Events Calendar Help

The Events calendar keeps you informed by providing you with access to hundreds of events and key dates at UTS. The calendar allows you to search, subscribe to event emails, and submit events (registered users only).

Important or interesting events are highlighted in the Featured Events box throughout the year.

When you first access the calendar, the events for the current week are displayed.

Searching for Events

You can search for events in different ways:

  • using the Calendar display
  • using the What's On date search
  • using the quick event type or keyword search
  • using the advanced search

The events displayed as a result of your search are displayed in the middle of the page.

Using the Calendar display

The calendar display has many functions to help you display events based on dates. This is a useful way to search if you are looking for something to do on a particular day.

  • Click on the name of the month to see all events in that month
  • Click on a day of the week to see all events for that day
  • Click on a week number to see all events for that week

The calendar also allows you to move forward and backward between months and years

  • Click on the single left arrow to go back one month
  • Click on the single right arrow to go forward one month
  • Click on the double left arrow to go back one year
  • Click on the double right arrow to go forward one year

Using the quick select "What's on" options

The quick select options provide you with a very quick way to see what is on in a particular time period.

By clicking on one of the quick select options you can see what is on:

  • Today
  • This week
  • This month

When you click on one of these options the display in the middle of the page will be updated with your selection.

Using the quick search

The quick search allows you to quickly select an event type and/or enter a key word to help you find an event quickly.

  • To search for a particular type of event, choose an event type from the Event Type drop-down list.
  • To search for an event that contains a certain keyword, enter a keyword in the text box.

You can search by event type or key word only or you can combine the two.

Click search once you have specified your search options.

The results of your search will be displayed in the middle of the page.

Using the Advanced Search option

The advanced search helps you to narrow your search. For example you might be interested in a particular type of event within a specific time period or in an event being hosted by a particular part of the university.

To use the Advanced search:

  • Select the start and end date (choose a day, month and year) from date drop-down lists. For example you might be looking for an event in the next 2 weeks.
  • Choose the event type from the type drop-down list. The Events in the calendar are sorted by a predefined set of event types including:
    • Conferences - Conferences, Speakers, Lectures, Seminars
    • Workshops - Workshops, training, short courses, clinics
    • Sports - Sports, recreation, gym classes, adventures and trips
    • Entertainment - Comedy, concerts, bands, DJs, parties, theatre, movies, various UTS club activities
    • Exhibitions - Art, Culture, Exhibitions
    • Open Days - Includes advisory day, Open days, U @ UTS day for students considering study at UTS
    • Orientation - Orientation, Official welcome events, events for new students (does not include academic dates)
    • Academic Dates - Enrolment, HECS, graduation, exams
    • Official UTS - Official University events such as elections, meetings, etc
    • Other - Any events that don't fit into the other categories
  • Choose the campus and building from the location drop down lists.
  • Choose the organisation of the university from the organizer drop-down list. Organisation is a unit, faculty, center, institute or club of the university who is organising an event. For example, you might be looking for an event put on by the UTS Union.
  • Choose an audience type from the audience drop-down lists. The audience is the type of person who the event is targeted at. For example, you might be looking for events for postgraduate students.
  • Enter a key word to help narrow your search further if required. For example, you might be looking for an event about improving your study skills.
  • Once you have made your selections, Click Search.

Subscribing to an Event Email

You can subscribe to an event email and receive information about events you are interested in sent to your email on a regular basis.

This feature will be added during March 2004 after an initial evaluation period.

Submitting an Event

If you are a registered user, you can submit an event to be published in the calendar. You will need to log on with your username and password to access the event submission form. If you have an event which you would like to promote, please see the registered events person in your unit/faculty/student club who can submit the event on your behalf.

Please view the UTS Events Calendar Guidlines (26KB PDF) for guidelines on submitting your event and having it published.

If there is no one in your area that is registered to submit events, and you are interested in being that person, please contact the Events Moderator.
